The Scheme of Assistance for Large Revenue Generating (LRG) Projects is another project of the Central Government. Sometimes, the development of tourism projects requires a very large investment, which cannot be provided by the government alone. The ‘Scheme of Assistance for Large Revenue Generating Projects’ recognizes this and proposes to bring in public private partnerships and associations with other government or semi-government agencies.
The Scheme of Assistance for Large Revenue Generating (LRG) Projects defines a ‘Large Revenue Generating Project’, as a venture, which is also a tourist attraction or used by tourists. It should be capable of generating revenue through a levy of fee or user charges on visitors.
Projects such as tourist trains, cruise vessels, cruise terminals, convention centres and golf courses qualify for assistance under this scheme. Projects that will not be eligible for assistance are hotels, restaurants, sports stadiums and procurement of vehicles.
While considering projects for grant-in-aid under the Scheme of Assistance for Large Revenue Generating (LRG) Projects, priority will be given to projects promoted by the private sector and projects with public private partnership.
However, in cases where private sector participation is not possible or is not forthcoming, then the projects promoted by the Central or State governments and their agencies will be eligible.
