The main objective of the ‘Scheme of Information Technology (IT) Projects’ is to encourage State Tourism Departments to take up major information technology initiatives. Information technology is important for providing information and facilitation services to tourists as well as for marketing and publicizing tourism products such as hotels, tickets, festivals and travel packages.
Under the Scheme of Information Technology (IT) Projects, financial assistance of up to 50 per cent of the information technology project is given to the State or Union Territory governments. This is subject to certain conditions with regard to submission guidelines and the information given in proposals.
A special assistance of 100 per cent may be given to new States and northeastern States on a case-to-case basis with the prior approval of the Secretary of Tourism.
Hardware that may be considered for Central Financial Assistance under the Scheme of Information Technology (IT) Projects include desktop computers, laptops, scanners, printers, CD writers, pen drives and so on.
Software consists of Windows operating software, application software, website development tools, software for online payment gateway and networking software among others. State governments may apply for loans under the Scheme of Information Technology (IT) Projects online.
